Updates:
- Sept 5th: The latest startlist from Ironman no longer lists Mike Phillips. Mike posted that he has a broken bone in his hand after a fall in training and won’t travel to Nice.
- Sept 1st: Trevor Foley has posted that he’ll skip Nice as his recovery after IM Lake Placid needs extra time.
- Aug 31st: Andi Dreitz crashed while racing 70.3 Zell am See and broke his collarbone.
- August 28th: Ironman has released the bib list for Nice. In addition to Johannes and Lionel, Sam Appleton and Michael Weiss have also not been assigned a number.
- As part of the Ironman announcement, a wild card for Sven Thalmann was made public. Sven has posted about the circumstances at IM Lanzarote here.
- August 24th: Lionel Sanders announced in a YouTube video “Why Racing Nice Would Be Too Risky” that Nice would be too soon after his sacrum stress fracture and that he won’t be racing in Nice.
- August 13th: Marten van Riel posted that he has twisted his ankle. Even though he hasn’t given up on racing Nice, he knows everything has to go right. On Sept 3rd he posted an update that he “couldn’t let these Ironman World Champs happen without me“.
- July 23rd: Johannes Vogel announced that he crashed in a Bundesliga race, tore his PCL and has to end his season.
Let’s hope there are not too many late withdrawals because of injuries, and that athletes on the edge can turn a few corners before Nice. Fingers crossed that those who won’t be able to race will be back to 100% soon!
