IM Canada (Whistler) 2013 – Analyzing Results

Race Conditions

With an adjustment of 0:14, the new course in Whistler appears to be a little bit slower than the old course in Penticton (course rating of 4:17, now used for Challenge Penticton). Of the three legs, the bike appears to be the hardest (adjustment of -1:13), but even a run rating of 2:41 is still relatively slow.

Male Race Results

Trevor Wurtele had a great day, winning his home IM. He has posted better IM times on faster courses (Arizona and New York), but this was probably his best, most even race. He put himself in a great position on the swim and bike, then posted the fastest run and win by more than five minutes over Matthew Russell. Completing the podium was Paul Amey, who lead a surprisingly large contingent of racers backing up after IM Mont Tremblant in search for the last KPR points to qualify. In addition to Paul, Mike Schifferle in 4th and Dominik Berger in 6th place qualified for Kona, while Bruno Clerbout (who had not raced since IM France and was the best rested of the potential qualifiers) was too far back from decent points and DNF’d.

Female Race Results

On the women’s side, we had Olesya Prystsayko backing up from IM Mont Tremblant in search for KPR points, but she was far off from the required win. Uli Bromme took the win, compensating for her typical slow swim with the race best bike and run splits. She was followed by Lisa Ribes and Gillian Moody:
