IM Switzerland 2013 – Analyzing Results

Race Conditions

Wow – this year’s IM Switzerland was really slow. I calculated a total adjustment of -10:02. The non-wetsuit swim and the bike were just a bit slower than the last year, but the run (in a severe heat) had an adjustment of -4:12 – more than 10 minutes slower than last year. A lot of people ran into issues on the run: T2 leader Jan Van Berkel had to withdraw with a heat stroke, and there is a lot of red in the run column (indicating slower than expected – even after the adjustment).

Male Race Results

Ronnie Schildknecht continued his non-Kona winning streak: As far as I know he is the first athlete winning an Ironman race seven times in a row. Ivan Rana and Per Bittner round out the podium (also grabbing Kona slots).

Female Race Results

On the women’s side, late entry Anja Beranek overcame her Frankfurt DNF by winning in Switzerland. IM-newbies Celine Schärer and Emma Pooley finished well after smart races in 2nd and 5th. Erika Csomor rounded out the podium, while Sofie Goos, Rebecca Hoschke and Sara Gross grabbed enough points for a Kona slot.
