Course Conditions
This year’s conditions were among the fastest there have ever been in Cairns, about seven minutes quicker than the long term average. This may have contributed to new course records set by winner Matt Burton, he improved almost ten minutes on Cameron Wurf’s bike course record from 2017 and about five minutes on the overall course record set last year by Braden Currie.
Nice and Kona Qualifying
As a Regional Championship, Cairns had four slots each for the women (Nice) and men (Kona). These will be offered to:
- Lauren Brandon, Rebecca Clarke, Fiona Moriarty and Ai Ueda for the women,
and - Braden Currie, Mike Phillips, Arnaud Guillaux and Tristan Olij for the men.
The top three women (Hannah Berry, Lotty Wilms and Kylie Simpson) and men’s race winner Matt Burton were already qualified.
