Course Conditions
As you can tell from the finishing times, conditions have been favorable in Hamburg: Warm but not hot, some wind but probably from a directions that helped a bit (nothing usual so far) – and a bike course that was slightly short (officially acknowledged as 178k, based on Straka data by competitors more likely to be 177k). On average, the course was even faster than last year’s chaotic race – especially on the bike, and about 13 minutes faster than the already fast 2022 which was the last female-only race. On balance, I will add the fast Hamburg times to my records page.
Based on a quick analysis right after the race, here are a few new entries for the records page:
- Jackie Herings’s 8:19 is faster than Skye Moench’s US record (8:22 from Florida 2023)
- Maja Stage’s finish in 8:21 was faster than her won Danish record (8:34 from Texas 2022)
- Daniela Bleymehl’s 4:20 bike split is lower than Lisa Norden’s fastest Ironman bike time (4:21 from Western Australia 2023) – even if on a course that is slightly short
- Julie Iemmolo was faster than the current French record (8:34 vs. Manon Genet’s time from Challenge Almere 2021)
- Elisabetta Curridori was a few seconds faster than her own Italian record from Challenge Almere 2021
- Erin Schenkels’ 8:41 was faster than her own Canadian record from Florida 2023 (8:47)
