Ironman Lanzarote 2022 – Analyzing Results

IMLanzaLogoCourse Conditions

As always, IM Lanzarote was a hard race. An adjustment of almost -32 minutes means it was roughly 36 minutes slower than the recent World Championships St. George. The bulk of what makes slow is the bike course (-26 minutes), but the swim and run are also anything but quick. Even with these tough conditions, Lydia Dant set a new bike course record in her first full-distance race, she was four minutes quicker than Lucy Charles when she won in 2017. Male winner Kenneth Vandendriessche was able to set a new run course record, improving the old record set by Gerrit Schellens in 2005, also by four minutes.

Kona Qualifying

Lanzarote offered 2 male and 2 female slots. These will go to

  • Els Visser and Elisabetta Curridori on the female side,
    and
  • Kenneth Vandendriessche and Mathias Peterson on the male side.

It seems that Lydia Dant declined her slot. You can find all 2022 Kona qualifiers here.
