Course Conditions
Typically, IM South Africa is one of the slower courses on the Ironman calendar. This year especially the swim was slow with wind and waves. It was about three minutes slower than average conditions, the bike and run were roughly typical. Male winner Magnus Ditlev showed an incredible performance, breaking the bike and overall course records. (The old bike record was set last year by Rasmus Svenningsson, the overall course record stood for eight years – Ben Hoffman won in 7:58 in 2017.) Magnus was also under the old run course record (2:42:52 by Ben Hoffman, also from 2017), but Marten van Riel’s 2:38:40 is the new mark. Female winner Anne Reischmann set a new bike course record, she broke Chrissie Wellington’s split from 2011 by three minutes.
Kona Qualifiers
As the African Championships, South Africa awarded five qualifying slots for Nice (men) and Kona (women). These will be offered to
- Magnus Ditlev, Marten Van Riel, Jonas Schomburg, Jonas Hoffmann and Jamie Riddle for the men
and - Katrine Graesboell Christensen, Laura Jansen, Maja Stage Nielsen, Jana Uderstadt and Charlene Clavel for the women.
The top two finishers on the female side, Anne Reischmann and Marta Sanchez, were already qualified. You can find the full list of 2025 qualifiers here.
