Course Conditions
Conditions in Wales are always extreme – this year just a little bit less. Last year’s adjustments were -43 and -37 minutes, this year’s adjustment of -27 minutes was still very slow but “quick” compared to earlier years.
We’ve seen a couple of new course records this year: Both winners Simone Mitchell and Arnaud Guilloux were able to improve on the old records set back in 2012. Simone also set a new bike course record. Arnaud was under the old bike course record, but the fastest bike split was set by Stefan Schuhmacher.
Kona Qualifying
Ironman Wales had one male and one female Kona slot for 2020, these go to the winners
- Simone Mitchell
and - Arnaud Guilloux.

What happened to Joe Skipper?
I’m not 100% sure – I know he started and was making up good time to the front with Bryan McCrystal, but then dropped way back. The tracker doesn’t show any timing information for him anymore. Maybe Joe went off-course and was later DQ’d?
Apparently he had a technical and had to change the tire. Lost ~30min during this.
The DQ was for littering (throwing away the old tube)
No the DQ was for ripping off his rear bike race number and throwing it away. He said it was flapping and making a horrible sound and was in a bit of a grump following the tyre issue that he just saw red, grabbed it and threw it away … in the view of a moto marshall. So instant DQ. (on his facebook page).
