Women’s Ironman World Championships 2024, Nice (Sept 22nd) – Always-up-to-date Startlist

Updates

A few athletes have qualified, but are unlikely to race or have already confirmed that they won’t race:

  • Skye Moench is pregnant with a due date in November (crossed out).
  • In August, Daniela Ryf has announced her immediate retirement (crossed out).
  • In a private conversation, Amelia Watkinson said that she will focus on T100 races and won’t race in Nice (crossed out).
  • Mariana Andrade and Danyelle Eberle have qualified but are no longer shown on the Ironman list. For now, I have just added a “?” to their names.
  • Svenja Thoes has been hit by a car during her bike training, and her injuries look serious enough that a start in Nice is at quite unlikely. I have added a “?” to her name.
  • Sept 4th: Ironman has released the official startlist for Nice. This list confirms that all of those mentioned above are indeed not racing in Nice. In addition, Lisa Norden does not yet feel ready to tackle an Ironman and won’t start. I have crossed out their names in the list below.
  • The official list also confirms that Taylor Knibb has NOT received a wildcard.(As she hasn’t validated her AQ slot, I have never added her to the list of starters.)
  • In an interview with the Dutch podcast “Triathlon Inside“, Marlene De Boer won’t be racing in Nice just one week after her big win in Almere.
  • Regan Hollioake is no longer on the most recent Ironman startlist. As expected, Marlene has also been removed.

Ironman Germany 2024 – Analyzing Results

IMFRA20Course Conditions

The main discussion item of this year’s edition of IM Germany was a shortened bike course. Officially, it was announced to be 177k, however the times were about 14 minutes quicker than in recent years when the course was slightly long (182k). That would put the course length at roughly 174k – and you can argue that the bike and overall times should not be counted as course records (or bests).

However, the marathon was on exactly the same course as in recent years, and I will accept Kristian’s fantastic 2:32 run split as a new run course record.

Kona Qualifying

Ironman Germany was the final race for with qualifying slots for Kona 2024. The final six slots will be offered to

  • Kieran Lindars,
  • Gregory Barnaby,
  • Kristian Hogenhaug,
  • Menno Koolhaas,
  • Jonas Hoffmann
    and
  • Finn Große-Freese.

In addition, winner Kristian Blummenfelt validated his AQ slot.

The final list of all qualifiers can be found here.

Ironman Sweden 2024 – Analyzing Results

2023 IM SwedenCourse Conditions

The course in Kalmar has always been fast, this year was no exception. The swim and bike were a little bit quicker than typical, the run maybe a bit slower. Overall, the adjustment of 21:59 was close to the course rating of 19:26. There were no new course records in the individual disciplines, but the top three women were under the 2018 course record from Corinne Abraham. The new mark by winner Marlene De Boer is five and a half minutes quicker.

Nice Qualifying

IM Sweden only had one Nice slot on offer – the last one for the 2024 qualifying season. This slot will be offered to

  • Henrike Gueber

The full list of qualifiers can be found here.
