Last Update: End of 2023 – comparisons are to Ratings at the end of 2022

For the last few years, the PTO World Rankings have used an algorithm based on my race analysis, creating a strong overlap of their Rankings to my Ratings. Since the start of 2023, the PTO Worlds Rankings are based on a new points algorithm (details can be found here), putting a stronger emphasis on the prestige or tier of a race and the finishing position and looking at all races longer then Olympic Distance in the last 12 months. The Ratings shown here are based on the performance on all full-distance races regardless of where the performance is shown.

Comments:

• Magnus Ditlev is my new #1, he has raced consistently well in 2023 to jump to the top of the Ratings.
• Kristian Blummenfelt was the old #1, he hasn’t raced an Ironman in 2023. (Similarly, Gustav Iden has finished two Ironman races and doesn’t have yet have a valid Rating.)
• With Arthur Horseau, Clement Mignon, Matt Marquardt and Brad Weiss there are three new athletes in the Top 10 who have now just raced enough Ironman-distance races for a  valid Rating.
• Rudy von Berg, Braden Currie and Leon Chevalier have climbed a few spots into the Top 10.
• The old #6 to #9 have now dropped back: Alistair Brownlee has’t finished an Ironman since Sweden in August 2022 and is now unranked, Denis Chevrot (now #22), Florian Angert (now #19), Joe Skipper (now #20).

Comments:

• Compared to the start of the year, there was a lot of up and down in the Top 10. The new #1 rated female is Lucy Charles-Barclay after her spectacular win in Kona.
• Chelsea Sodaro now has three IM-distance finished and enters the Top 10 in fourth place.
• The only athlete to fall out of the Top10 compared to end of 2022 is Daniela Bleymehl, she is now #23.
