Ironman Copenhagen 2025 – Analyzing Results

IM Copenhagen 2025Course Conditions

Once again, conditions in Copenhagen were quick. With an adjustment of 33:45, this year’s race was about six minutes quicker than the last Pro race in 2021 and about 11 minutes quicker then the new course rating (i.e. average) of 22:29.

We’ve also seen new course records. Most notably, winner Finn Grove-Freese took the overall course records from Cam Wurf (improving by just over eight minutes) and also the run course record which was set back in 2011 by Mats Vittrup (was 2:38, now 2:32). The first four athletes were under the old run course record. Before that, we’ve also seen a new bike course record which was also set by Cam Wurf in 2021 at 4:02. Rasmus Svenningssen was the fastest with a 3:54 but since he ended his run as planned after 10k, this time is not valid for a course record. Instead, the new mark was set by Matthew Palmer with 3:58.

Finn also set a new German fastest time. Some more new national records: Jesper (Sweden), Zack (Great Britain), and Milosz (Poland). (with Nice and Kona coming up, I will take some time to update the national records post.)

Nice Qualifying

Copenhagen offered the final slot for the men’s Ironman World Championships 2025 in Nice. For now, it’s not 100% clear who will get this slot. Both winner Finn Grove-Freese and second.place Mathias Petersen already have their slots. Therefore,

  • Jesper Svensson should be offered the slot, but he has indicated that he might decline,
    in that case
  • Zack Cooper will be next in line.

However, this will only be official at the awards ceremony on Monday.

Ironman Sweden 2025 – Analyzing Results

2023 IM SwedenCourse Conditions

Once again, conditions in Sweden were very quick, especially on the bike. An adjustment of 27:24 is mainly a result of the fast bike course with a 25:04 adjustment this year. Compared to earlier years, this race was still a bit quicker than the course rating of 20:06.

Both Katrine and Marlene were quicker than last year’s course record set by Marlene, the new mark by Katrine is almost twelve minutes quicker. Marlene was a few seconds quicker than Katrine on the bike, she set a new bike course record by two and a half minutes over Corinne Abraham’s time from 2018(!). Hannah Munday missed the 2013 swim course record set by Jodie Swallow by just 19 seconds.

Kona Qualifying

IM Sweden offered one Pro slot, this will be offered to

  • Marlene de Boer

In addition, Chelsea Sodaro validated her AQ slot. Winner Katrine Graesboell was already qualified. You can find all qualifiers here. Since Sweden was the last (female) qualifying race, I will also post the list of qualifiers in my “always up-to-date Kona startlist“.

Women’s Ironman World Championships 2025, Kona (Oct 11th) – Always up-to-date Startlist

WC Kona 25Updates:

Let’s hope there are not too many late withdrawals because of injuries, and that athletes on the edge can turn a few corners before Kona. Fingers crossed that those who won’t be able to race will be back to 100% soon!
