Ironman Hawaii 2016 – Always Up To Date Pro Startlist

After all Kona slots have been accepted, here is the preliminary start list for Kona 2015. There can still be some changes to the list – some athletes may get injured and decide not to start after all. There may be a few day in early September for a slot to roll down, but not closer to the race – that slot will just be gone then. I will update this list if any slots are declined or athletes announce that they won’t start. I will also update the list once Ironman assigns bib numbers. For now the lists are sorted according to the final ranking in the KPR at the end of August qualifying (Q denotes a July qualifier, q an August qualifier, AQ an Automatic qualifier, and d an athlete that declined a slot in August).

I provide a lot more details on the race and the participants in my free “Kona Rating Report” which you can already order at https://gum.co/Kona2016.

Update Aug 25th: I’ve updated the list to reflect the slots rolled down to Callum Millward and Michaela Herlbauer.

Update Sept 17th: The bib numbers have been announced, and Natascha Badmann has received a wildcard to end her Pro career (also see my post on her 2016 season).

Update Sept 23rd: Pete Jacobs has withdrawn: PeteTweet

Update Aug 28th: Mareen Hufe has announced that she won’t be able to race Kona for “health reasons”.

Update Aug 29th: Natascha Schmitt also won’t be able to start. She canceled her flight to Kona when instead of recovering from IM Mallorca she got an infectious stomach bug that with forced bed rest.

Inofficial August Kona Pro Slots

Here is my calculation of the KPR at the end of August, deciding the final 10 male and 7 female slots (in addition to the July qualifiers). My results are unofficial, the official results will be posted on the Ironman website at http://eu.ironman.com/triathlon/triathlon-rankings/points-system.aspx (but as far as I can tell shows the same data). I will update this post with new information regarding declined slots and rolldown. For now, the athletes with a rank in brackets (e.g. “(11)”) are outside of the August slots. I will update this post with information about slot declines and rolldowns.

Update Aug 22nd: Annah Watkinson announced that she will decline her slot, it rolls down to Michaela Herlbauer:

AnnahTweet

Update Aug 23rd: Callum Millward has received a roll-down slot from Chris Leiferman.

Update Aug 26th: All slots have been accepted, there have been no further rolldowns.

Ironman Sweden 2016 – Analyzing Results

Race Conditions

This year’s IM Sweden was one of the faster editions of this race, indicating that the wind conditions were quite favorable. But as it was a WPRO only race and there were only three previously rated PRO athletes, the strength of this analysis is not very high.

Race Results

Kristin Möller was able to hold the distance to the front on the bike, and the race best 2:55 marathon (second fastest of all year so far!) allowed her to win by a comfortable margin.
